Platform Engineer

As a Platform Engineer, you will help us improve and maintain our highly scalable platform that serves up Unitary’s cutting-edge machine learning technology.

Your mission will be to ensure our platform can run smoothly with minimum downtime and maximum customer satisfaction. You will achieve this by investigating issues when something goes wrong but also, more importantly, implementing proactive tools and procedures so that these issues do not happen again. 

As you develop in the role, there may be options to specialise further into Platform, Site Reliability Engineering, or DevOps disciplines at a later date.

• Make targeted improvements to our monitoring stack to ensure our infrastructure and applications are performing at all times and the right alerts get through.
• Optimise the CI/CD pipelines that build and deploy microservices and AI/ML models to have confidence in the code we release to production.
• Join our 24/7 support rotation which provides first-level platform support to ensure a great customer experience; you will be on-call up to one week per month.
• Debug problems that might arise across the stack, including solving and documenting technical issues with cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes clusters.
• Maintain the resiliency of our platform by continually improving our incident response procedures through updating runbooks and facilitating postmortems.

For this particular role, we need a proactive platform expert who can work independently to make our infrastructure, services, and procedures highly resilient. You will be ready to dive straight into solving problems both technical and operational, and can demonstrate an ability to adapt to new technologies in a fast-paced start-up environment. You embrace a customer first mindset in a role that directly impacts their experience through platform availability and reliability.

• Have knowledge of provisioning, managing and scaling AWS infrastructure (including EKS, S3, IAM)
• Are confident in developing robust CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Github Actions), and optimising DevOps procedures and processes
• Have experience of troubleshooting containerised microservices (Docker, Kubernetes) and knowledge of how to configure and deploy them
• Have worked with API services and production systems, including knowledge of maintaining service uptime and automated scaling
• Have previously used tools and services for monitoring such as Prometheus, InfluxDB, Grafana, and Datadog

• Are familiar with event-driven systems, ideally AWS SQS
• Are experienced with Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform)
• Have experience writing production code in languages such as Go or Python
• Have knowledge of how to automate training and deploying AI/ML models (MLOps)

This role can be placed anywhere within 3 hours of the UK time zone.
