🎯 The Role
If you have spent your career in SOX, internal controls, audit, controllership, or financial close, and you want to build the systems that fix what you find instead of only testing them, this role is for you.
Every product BitGo ships eventually becomes a number: a balance, a fee, a statement, a journal entry, a regulatory filing. As a public company and a federally chartered trust bank, we have to prove those numbers are right every period, across many products, legal entities, and jurisdictions.
You will own the product strategy for the financial and accounting platform that makes those numbers right by construction, as we add products, entities, and asset types. You will turn accounting requirements into scalable, auditable, self-service platform capabilities that product, engineering, finance, and compliance can build on.
Digital assets make this harder, and more interesting, than it is at a traditional bank. On chain activity, custody structures, staking, tokenized assets, and settlement each move through our systems differently, and each has to land correctly on the books. The industry is still writing the playbook for much of this. You will help write it.
✅ Key Responsibilities
- The financial data and accounting platform roadmap: Define and deliver the shared capabilities that make financial data trustworthy by construction: ledger and sub-ledger integrity, balance and activity reconciliation, fee and revenue calculation, client reporting, and the feeds into the general ledger and the financial close.
- Controls built into the product: Partner with finance, internal audit, and external auditors to turn SOX and internal control requirements into product capabilities instead of manual procedures. When a control needs a build, you own the requirements, the plan, and the timeline, delivered in step with the audit calendar.
- Platform standards across products and entities: Make sure new products, new asset types, new legal entities, and acquisitions plug into the platform instead of creating bespoke accounting workarounds. You set the standards, interfaces, and data contracts that product teams build against.
- Regulatory and audit readiness: Work with compliance, legal, and risk so the platform supports regulatory reporting, books-and-records requirements, and examiner and auditor requests. You run dated plans against external deadlines and flag early when a timeline is at risk.
- Close, reporting, and operational efficiency: Reduce the manual effort, elapsed time, and risk in month-end and quarter-end close. Establish the metrics that show whether the platform is working: reconciliation breaks, close duration, audit adjustments, manual journal volume, and time to onboard a new product.
📌 Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience (typically 9+ for Principal) building or scaling systems, platforms, tooling, or control frameworks that multiple internal or external teams relied on, including 3+ years as the owner. You might have done this as a product manager, or from audit, controllership, or accounting systems. At Principal, you have set strategy or standards that other teams adopted.
- An accounting or finance foundation: a CPA or equivalent, an accounting degree, or hands-on experience in financial reporting, audit, controllership, or accounting systems. You can read a trial balance, follow a journal entry through a ledger, and discuss revenue recognition or reconciliation with a controller without a translator.
- Experience building scalable platforms such as ledgers, billing, payments, reporting, data infrastructure, reconciliation tooling, or controls automation. You think in data models, interfaces, and reuse, and you know when a one-off fix will cost us later. If you come from audit or accounting, this may look like automating reconciliations, building controls into a system, or designing data models and tooling with engineers, rather than a formal product title.
- Experience in a regulated financial environment. You have worked with auditors, examiners, SOX controls, or control programs, and you understand how public company obligations change how products are built and shipped.
- Technical credibility with Engineers. You can follow an architecture discussion, pressure-test an estimate, and write precise requirements for data-heavy systems. Familiarity with SQL and financial data pipelines is a plus.
- Crypto or digital-asset experience is a requirement. If you do not have professional experience, passion projects with breadth and depth across digital assets could be a good fit.
- A writing-first approach: your default artifacts are clear specs, data flow maps, and decision documents.
⭐ Desirable Experience
- Building bespoke solutions for each product or blockchain instead of platform capabilities that scale.
- Needing positional authority to get things done. Engineering, finance, and compliance sit on separate reporting lines, and you will coordinate across all three every day. You need to find ways to unblock yourself.
- Optimizing for process over outcomes. We have little patience for ceremony. Here, a control built into the product is an outcome; a new manual review step usually isn't.
