🎯 The Role
As a Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and operating our Internal Developer Platform (IDP) using Backstage as a portal, infrastructure based on Terraform modules and Helm charts, delivered through ArgoCD (GitOps). You will design self-service interfaces (portal, APIs, CLI, templates) for teams to access platform capabilities on-demand, automate our Observability stack (Grafana, Loki, Mimir, Tempo), and operate our workflow orchestration platform based on Flowable. You will also be responsible for our development environments (Linux VMs on an on-prem Proxmox cluster) including automation and a central knowledge base for development teams.
✅ Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and operate our Internal Developer Platform (IDP): Backstage as a portal, infrastructure on Terraform modules and Helm charts, delivered via ArgoCD (GitOps).
Take responsibility for our Observability stack (Grafana, Loki, Mimir, Tempo) and extend the platform concept there.
Operate our workflow orchestration platform based on Flowable.
Take responsibility for our development environments (Linux VMs on an on-prem Proxmox cluster) including automation and a central knowledge base.
Collaborate closely with product teams, system and cloud engineering, and IT security to ensure the platform aligns with underlying architectures and operational realities.
Treat the platform as a product: incorporate feedback, usage data, and adoption numbers into the roadmap and prioritizations.
📌 Required Qualifications
A degree in Computer Science / Engineering or equivalent practical experience, plus several years of experience as a Platform, DevOps, SRE, or Cloud Engineer.
Proficiency with Kubernetes, Linux, and tools from the CNCF ecosystem; experience with Terraform, Helm, and ArgoCD or similar technologies.
Interest in platform thinking: self-service, appropriate abstraction level, Golden Paths, and reducing cognitive load for development teams.
Experience with Backstage or other developer portals, or willingness to learn.
Solid knowledge of CI/CD and common integration patterns; experience with Observability tooling (Grafana LGTM stack) is preferred but not mandatory.
Interest in secure-by-default design and integrating policies into platform workflows.
Product-oriented thinking with a focus on Developer Experience (DevEx), translating friction in the developer's daily work into concrete improvements.
Fluent in both German and English.
Preference for a hybrid work model: 2 days remote and 3 days on-site in Hildesheim, with Thursday as a fixed on-site day. A fully remote position is not considered.
