You are a well-rounded engineer who has led the full life cycle of major projects, including making decisions about architecture that influence the trajectory of your projects.
You care deeply about the user. You want to blow their mind.
You’re a decisive builder, a shipper, and a craftsperson.
You know how to code...very, very well. You are fluent in some of our stack: Javascript and Node, running mostly on Firebase. Some React, some pure JS, some Canvas. You’ve probably tried more than a few different frameworks and understand the tradeoffs between them.
You make others around you better; you care about the people you work with learning and getting better at their craft.
You move fast and work hard.
You’re comfortable working in a problem space with a lot of uncharted territory.
You do the right thing.
You are opinionated but open, you want the best idea to win.
Guide important decisions about architecture and overall web platform. Build a common layer that can accelerate other engineers and help us easily maintain a very flexible, stable web platform as we grow.
You have the opportunity (requirement) to continually learn, teach, and step outside your comfort zone.
You will work closely with an experienced founding team and get exposed to the early days and decisions that will make a startup successful.
You will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of projects - from conception, through implementation, and measurement - that change the trajectory of Here. You will be the primary point person for our Full Stack Web team.
As Here grows, your role will grow. We expect the early team to be exceptional, and to grow as exceptional leaders.
Our team is small--you’ll be one of our first few hires--which means you’ll have a lot of responsibility from the start. Here is an entirely new approach to video and personalization. At our most basic level, we’re building the way people want to be together online with one another--we’re making the OS for hanging out. We run lots of experiments, we take risks, we ship some really weird stuff.
Here is where friends and communities hang out in fully customized (and personalized) online rooms. We believe that the Internet should be fun, weird and shared with others. You know what it feels like to be in the same place with a friend? To do something together? It's magical. And there's nothing quite like it online. Here is changing that.
We've grown a lot over the past 6 months, we run our own audio/video stack, and we're available on every major desktop web browser, native iOS and Android mobile web. We raised a lot of money from some of the top VCs and Angels in the world, but to be honest, we don't want you to come work with us because of that; we want you to come work with us because you believe people want to be together online, they just need the right place to do it—and we're going to build that place in Here.
Our team is small (nine people as of Jan 2022) and distributed throughout the US. If you join, you will:
Help to set our culture
Influence who we choose to hire
Have a say in our roadmap
Create foundational practices in your departmental area
Hiring is the most important thing we do at Here. We must have an extraordinary team and that means hiring people who are highly ambitious, empathetic, and mission driven to build the most expressive and personalized way for people to be together online. We care much more about what you've built and accomplished than a brand name on your resume; please apply for this role even if your experience is not a perfect match for our qualifications. We are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workspace where everyone (regardless of age, education, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or any personal characteristics) feels like they belong.
