Our tool sends an HTTP request to the specified host and measures the round-trip time. While it's not a traditional ICMP ping (which browsers can't do), it gives you a good indication of network latency and server responsiveness.
Why can't I use ICMP ping?
Web browsers are restricted from sending ICMP packets for security reasons. Instead, we use HTTP requests which closely approximate real-world web application latency.
What is a good response time?
For EU servers, response times under 50ms are excellent, 50-150ms are good, and anything above 300ms may indicate connectivity issues. Ideal latency depends on your location relative to the server.
How accurate is HTTP-based ping?
HTTP-based ping measures real-world web application latency, which is often more relevant than ICMP ping. It includes network latency plus server processing time for HTTP requests.
