Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) Responsibilities:
• Contribute technically to a team focused on applying software engineering practices to operations at scale.
• Monitor and report on service level objectives for applications services, working with business and product owners to establish key performance indicators.
• Participate in technical training events, game day scenarios, and engineering spikes.
• Provide support for a wide range of applications, with a focus on increasing automation, repeatability, and consistency.
• Create and maintain monitoring technologies and processes to improve visibility into application performance and business metrics, while ensuring manageable operational workload.
• Promote healthy software development practices.
• Conduct persistent testing of application and infrastructure resiliency under various error conditions.
• Collaborate with security engineers to develop plans and automation for proactive response to new risks and vulnerabilities.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure operational development solutions meet business requirements.
• Provide architectural and practical guidance to software development to improve resiliency, efficiency, performance, and costs.
• Develop, communicate, and monitor standard processes to promote the long-term sustainability and health of operational development tasks.
• Collaborate with feature/service-oriented development teams.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, MIS, or related discipline.
• Prior relevant software development/architecture experience (1-2 years experience).
• Hands-on experience in a DevOps or System Administration role (1-2 years experience).
• Experience building and supporting cloud-based solutions.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Python, Go, Perl, or Ruby.
• Experience working with configuration management and deployment automation tools like Chef, Terraform, Puppet, or Ansible.
• Experience with Windows (2003/2008/2012) and Linux administration.
• Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle, with experience working in QA and beta environments.
• Proficiency in cloud computing concepts and on-premise infrastructure.
• Experience working with Azure cloud infrastructure and services is preferred.
• Experience with virtualization and container solutions like Docker, Kubernetes, and ECS is preferred.
• Understanding of diverse infrastructure platforms and concepts.
• Understanding of the Agile software development methodology.
• Knowledge of standard production practices, including change management.
• Ability to debug and optimize code and automate routine tasks.
• Systematic problem-solving approach, strong communication skills, and a sense of ownership and drive.
Nice to Have:
• Troubleshooting experience with diverse hosting technologies, such as web server platforms, Java application platforms, operating systems, network components, virtualization technologies, and database platforms.
• Proficiency in Linux, including experience compiling your own kernel, tracing syscalls, understanding TCP, and familiarity with sysvinit/runit/systemd.
• Knowledge of Open Source software and contributions to the open-source community.
