Job Overview

We're seeking a highly skilled Site Reliability Engineer to manage systems and infrastructure at scale. This role involves deploying OpenAI's technology into new environments and infrastructures to support critical missions in the public sector. You will work closely with internal product, security, and compliance teams to build necessary functionality and ensure a scalable, reliable platform.

This position is based in Washington D.C. and San Francisco, CA, requiring travel and on-site work with customers.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure and System Management

• Design and build performant, reliable, and scalable infrastructure, both on-premises and in the cloud, tailored for public sector customers.
• Administer systems from hardware up to Kubernetes, standardizing infrastructure for technology deployment.
• Ensure system reliability by being on-site with customers, using observability tools, and troubleshooting issues as the first line of support.
• Collaborate with engineering and security teams to adapt products to the unique needs of infrastructure and use-cases.
• Automate routine tasks and standardize infrastructure offerings to facilitate team scaling and growth.

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills

• Active US security clearance.
• 5+ years of experience operating infrastructure and systems at scale.
• Experience working in secure environments and collaborating with on-site clients and remote colleagues.
• Hands-on experience with containers (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes).
• Scripting experience with Python or similar languages for automating routine tasks.
• Ability to own problems end-to-end and acquire necessary knowledge to ensure team and customer success.
• Capability to thrive in dynamic environments and navigate ambiguity with ease.

Compensation

Salary Range: $279,000 - $385,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
