As the first Site Reliability Engineer at Hiive, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of our platform. You’ll join our small but growing infrastructure team, where you will work directly with the DevOps team and engineering leadership. You will be a hands-on contributor and work to build scalable and resilient infrastructure, automate processes, and respond to incidents efficiently and effectively. You’ll help implement security and compliance measures. You’ll be a helpful resource to your colleagues, collaborating to optimize and improve our platform’s performance and reliability. You’ll also contribute to the team’s efforts to build an excellent and supportive engineering culture.
In this role, your responsibilities would include:
Maintain and improve our platform's uptime and availability.
Optimizing and maintaining our existing infrastructure to improve reliability, performance, and security.
Proactively identify and correct scaling and reliability issues before they become incidents or impact business metrics.
Troubleshooting performance issues with product engineers and implementing solutions.
Configuring and maintaining critical monitoring and alerting on platform performance and availability.Â
Assisting with incident response, including investigation, mitigation, and follow-up, and developing incident runbooks.
Joining on-call rotations on a schedule shared with the rest of our engineering organization.
Required Skills:
Previous experience working in an SRE or similar role.
Previous experience working with (writing or deploying) Elixir or a desire to learn.
Previous experience with production Kubernetes clusters.
Proficiency building infrastructure with Terraform.
Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) – particularly with strong proficiency in EKS, RDS, and VPC — and Vercel.
Previous experience working with and optimizing PostgreSQL.
Previous experience working with Datadog or similar observability tools.
Preferred Skills:
Experience in regulated or high-compliance environments.
Experience with GitHub Actions for CI/CD.
Experience completing SOC2 or similar certification.
Experience working with Cloudflare.
Expertise with hands-on development in one or more programming languages.
