As a Lead Platform/Infrastructure Engineering on AWS (w/m/d), you will lead the scaling of our AWS Cloud-based infrastructure, with a strong focus on security, playing a crucial role in supporting our rapid growth and transformative initiatives.
Our Platform Engineering team, though still growing, is strategically designed to scale. We focus on several foundational pillars: Developer Experience Stream, Core R&D Infrastructure including AWS and Tools, Security & Compliance, Observability & Incident Management.
We manage dockerized applications on ECS, serverless applications for web and backend teams, as well as specialized cloud data components (like data warehouses and ingestion pipelines) for analytical, data science and machine learning teams across our platform.
Your mission as the Lead of our Platform Engineering team is to empower our R&D teams to innovate and deliver rapidly, while ensuring our production systems are secure and robust. You will oversee the development and operation of common platform components—including services, tools, and processes—to abstract away complexity, allowing Product Engineering teams to focus on innovation rather than repetitive infrastructure tasks. By treating the platform as a product, you'll drive scalability, optimize for cost-effectiveness, and ensure high availability, all while fostering an environment of continuous improvement and adopting cutting-edge technologies to keep us at the forefront of industry advancements.
You will act as both a leader in establishing processes and tooling to guide efforts, and be ready to roll up your sleeves and dive deep to help teams solve issues during incidents if needed.
You take joy in sharing infrastructure best practices with engineers, and you will also be happy to grow your already existing team of two experienced engineers further in the future. We are open to applications of first-time leaders such as senior or principal engineers transitioning into management roles, given strong willingness and shown leadership potential.
In your role, you will report directly to the Head of Platform Engineering, who is responsible for overarching strategy, cross-team alignment and Data Platform pillar.

Lead the team to architect, build and run and scale our Engineering Platform
Plan both quarterly goals and initiatives as well as establish a technical vision for your area in alignment with the engineering leads
Lead the professional growth of the existing members in your team as well as hire new engineers as neededÂ
Drive AWS infrastructure innovation to enable fast and sustainable solutions for the engineering teams
Foster a great DevOps culture, improving tools and automating processes to facilitate everyone's daily work
Drive implementation effective monitoring and alerting (Datadog, Cloudwatch, Sentry)
Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code, on AWS using DevOps tooling (Terraform, Atlantis, Github, CircleCI and best automation practices)
Work with the developers to ensure our CircleCI deployments are lightning-fast and reliable (ECS, Spot.io, CircleCI, Serverless)
Make sure HeyJobs systems are protected from attacks and security is embedded in all relevant processes
Drive Security Assessments, GDPR compliance and audits as needed
Coach and teach software engineers about AWS architecture, new services, best-practices, etc.

Deep experience with AWS-based infrastructure - being familiar with AWS-specific solutions models, networking, and best practices
Experience in establishing security practices in the scope of AWS-based solutions and strong desire to further grow your practice in there
Extensive hands-on experience working with Infrastructure as a Code (Terraform, Ansible, Cloudformation, etc)
Experience with Docker running on ECS, troubleshooting, and capacity planning
Hands on experience in auto scaling and networking setups
Experience in effective monitoring, alerting and incident management setups
Strong communication skills: you are good at explaining your choices, enjoy collaborating, and present ideas in a clear and structured manner
Experience in planning, leading and delivering projects technically as well as establish needed processes, KPIs and procedures around Â
Willingness to learn, share knowledge and educate others
Experience supporting engineering teams
Fluency in English (German not required)
