The Cloud Engineering team

We're a small but expanding team within the wider Engineering community. Not only responsible for performing routine maintenance and infrastructure changes, we work directly with our Software Engineer colleagues driving DevOps ideals - enabling them to focus on delivering features and platform improvements. We also maintain our own roadmap of projects to automate and simplify our daily lives. As the team continues to grow, we’re developing our culture with an emphasis on innovation and learning.

The role

Reporting to the Lead Cloud Engineer, you’ll work on a variety of projects ranging from smaller isolated pieces of maintenance to larger projects requiring thorough research and development in areas that may be completely new to you. You will work both collaboratively and alone, but in all cases will have the support of more senior engineers if and when you need it. You will advocate for the principles of Lean Engineering an Devops within the team and this will impact the way you approach your work.

In this role, you will work in a highly technical team. You will share your suggestions which will help steer how Goji makes use of the cloud. You’ll be expected to question decisions and make your own contribution. You will also have the opportunity to expand your skills and shape a development journey that’s tailored to you.

Immediate roadmap

• Further enhance our backup and disaster recovery stance to ensure we can continue running in all possible scenarios with minimal manual effort.
• Re-design our observability framework to make it easier to fully utilise all available telemetry and enable Software Engineers to gain insight into their application’s performance.
• Mature our AWS organization landscape to better isolate workloads and make it easier to manage the growing demands of the business.

What you will bring

• Strong infrastructure-as-code (IaC) skills, in particular experience with Terraform.
• Daily experience working with AWS – namely ECS, RDS, Organizations and Lambda.
• A strong understanding of modern engineering concepts such as Agile and CI/CD.
• Experience with a scripting language. Python and bash would be particularly advantageous.
• Knowledge in networking fundamentals in a cloud environment (AWS VPC, DNS, HTTP, IP addressing etc).
• Desire to develop both technical and non-technical skills.
