The Position:
GameChanger's Foundations Team enables GameChanger engineers to deliver great products on a secure, stable, and scalable platform. The Foundations Team is responsible for managing our AWS environment and Databases, ensuring optimal observability. This team plays a pivotal role in leading projects that enhance GameChanger’s developer productivity. Additionally, they contribute significantly to our cloud infrastructure and application security expertise. The team collaborates closely with product and data teams to deliver top-tier solutions that align with our strategic goals. This empowered team works collaboratively with other platform and software engineering teams and engineering leaders to gather feedback, review designs, and proactively improve the foundation that engineering builds upon.
We’re looking for a Data Platform Engineer to join working with our Database Architect. As a Data Platform Engineer, you will be an expert on data storage solutions to provide guidance to our teams on the effective use of technologies, their usage in large-scale architecture, and performance optimization. You will play a crucial role in empowering our product development teams, ensuring they have the tools and environment necessary for efficient and scalable product creation. This role is a unique opportunity to contribute to database development and technology across the organization as we grow our systems, teams, and processes.
What You’ll Do:
Operate and support GameChanger database systems currently running on AWS Aurora
Partner with teams across the organizations to drive performance, security, scalability, availability, reliability, and observability for consumer-facing databases.
Design frameworks and maintain the general ecosystem around relational and non-relational databases, including schema management, monitoring, permissions, service discovery integration, and more.
Design, automate, and document database operations.
Diagnose and effectively communicate the root cause of database issues
Apply inspection/debugging techniques to metrics/telemetry, logs, events, and other information sources to diagnose operational issues
Participate in incident response activities
Document and present incident postmortems
Serve on an on-call rotation to address high-priority issues as they arise
What You’ll Bring:
BS in Computer Science, Data Science, or equivalent experience
2+ years of professional software development, site reliability, or data engineering experience
Strong CS and data engineering fundamentals
Proven fluency in SQL and a development language such as Typescript
Query optimization through application implementation and understanding of query plans
Understanding of ETL/ELT pipelines and Data Warehousing design, tooling, and support
Experience working with cloud data technology (Aurora Postgres, Snowflake, DocumentDB, DynamoDB, etc)
Understanding of different data formatting (JSON, CSV, XML) and data storage techniques (3NF, EAV Model, Star/Snowflake Schema, Data Lake/Mesh)
Experience working with infrastructure or configuration as-code (IAC) frameworks (Terraform)
Strong communication skills in writing and conversation

The target salary range for this position is between $125,000 and $170,000. This is part of a competitive total rewards package that includes incentive, equity, and benefits for eligible roles. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors including experience, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. We review all teammate pay regularly to ensure competitive and fair pay.
