We are seeking a hands-on DevOps Engineer to help build and evolve the engineering paved road across infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, cloud security, and developer workflows. You will play a key role in BusPatrol’s platform modernization and AI-native SDLC journey. That includes supporting secure, spec-driven engineering workflows, strengthening CI/CD and policy gates, improving delivery reliability, and helping teams adopt repeatable AI-enabled development practices without compromising security, compliance, or production readiness.

The Role

Based in Austin, Texas, this is a full-time role requiring less than 5% travel. You will play a meaningful part in shaping the systems that enable BusPatrol engineering to move faster, operate more securely, and scale responsibly. You will help build the platforms, workflows, and guardrails that support both today’s products and BusPatrol’s next generation of AI-enabled delivery capabilities.

Working alongside specialists in software engineering, security, architecture, MLOps, and IT, you'll help deliver scalable internal platforms and high-trust operational practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Designing, provisioning, and maintaining cloud infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code patterns, reusable modules, and secure platform standards.
• Helping define and improve the engineering paved road for service delivery, release patterns, environment consistency, and platform guardrails.
• Building, maintaining, and hardening CI/CD pipelines that support safe build, test, release, promotion, rollback, and change visibility across services and environments.
• Improving pipeline quality gates with automated security scanning, dependency checks, and policy enforcement.
• Partnering with engineering teams to improve reliability, performance, recovery time, and production readiness.
• Supporting secure AI-enabled software delivery by operationalizing spec-driven workflows, AI-assisted PR practices, automated test generation, and controlled release readiness checks.
• Contributing to AI delivery systems that are secure, repeatable, observable, and aligned with guardrails for sensitive data, secrets, and production change control.
• Improving developer experience through self-service tooling, templates, documentation, and workflow automation that reduce toil.
• Participating in incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement efforts.
• Using operational data and engineering feedback to reduce recurring issues, strengthen controls, and improve the overall delivery system.

Required Qualifications

You'll be an experienced DevOps Engineer, Platform Engineer or Site Reliability Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience is required.

You'll ideally have experience with:

• 5+ years in DevOps, Platform Engineering, SRE, or cloud infrastructure roles.
• AWS and modern infrastructure automation practices.
• Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, AWS CDK, or comparable tooling.
• Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions or similar systems.
• Observability tooling, monitoring, and production operations.
• Cloud security controls, secrets handling, branch protections, and secure release workflows.
• Collaborating effectively with engineers, security partners, and technical stakeholders across teams and time zones.
• Strong written documentation habits and an automation-first mindset.

Desirable Experience

We're particularly interested if you also have experience with:

• Platform modernization from legacy systems toward service-oriented or microservices-based architectures.
• Policy-as-code, automated security gates, or compliance-oriented controls in engineering workflows.
• AI-assisted engineering workflows, spec-driven development, or AI-enabled SDLC tooling.
• Improving developer self-service through templates, paved roads, internal platforms, or golden-path patterns.

Core Skills:

• Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, and release automation.
• CI/CD pipeline engineering and AWS platform operations.
• Observability, incident response, and cloud security policy enforcement.
• Developer experience, platform enablement, and runbook creation.
• AI workflow enablement with governance and cross-functional technical collaboration.
