About the Role (your why)
The DevOps Engineer is responsible for guiding and implementing automation initiatives and dealing with software development, operations, and services. This role involves performing hands-on automation tasks in areas including software development, operations, and services. The DevOps Engineer is responsible for improving communication, collaboration, and integration between software developers and IT operations personnel.
**To be successful in this role you will need to be an Australian Citizen and be eligible to obtain a security clearance**
What you’ll do
At the moment, as DevOps Engineer you will be focused on:
- Involvement in architectural decisions and roadmap planning by understanding business needs and alignment across organisations and teams.
- Working in a small team developing and supporting a production system where 24/7 on-call support is required. Team members currently do an on-call shift 1 week out of every 3.
- Working closely with the development team to facilitate the software development process. Provisioning and rebuilding infrastructure as needed. Understanding the team’s needs and improving the release cycle process.
- Doing Production deployments, ensuring low downtimes and managing client expectations.
- Delivering a “Code first approach” to enhance maintenance efforts and to ensure financial viability.
- Active, hands-on development of Infrastructure as Code and Pipeline as Code.
- Documenting changes and processes and building a knowledge repository for DevOps.
- Enhancing the Datacom managed services solutions by applying an ‘automate where possible’ approach.
- Uplifting delivery maturity across Datacom leveraging agile/DevOps methodologies.
- Actively identify and support the automation of labour-intensive, repetitive tasks using the abovementioned Datacom automation frameworks.
- Working with, leading, and guiding other engineers in executing uplifts across the build engineering, release engineering, configuration management and environment management practices.
- Assisting engineers to automate the process of testing various software and minimise errors.
- Participating in and/or leading DevOps code and design reviews.
- Providing execution of activities related to infrastructure, security, continuous integration, continuous deployment, IT operations and metrics.
- Collaborating with other System Administrators, Developers, Testers, Architects, Business Analysts, Cloud Ops and Cyber Sec teams.
- Collaborating with operations and development teams to mitigate the risks associated with the product life-cycle and improve the overall scalability and reliability of the application.
- Takes reasonable care that their actions (or inactions) do not harm the Health and Safety of self or others. Reports all incidents, hazards or unsafe work practices as per Datacom policy.
- This role requires to be on-call every three weeks.
