The Cloud FinOps Consultant is a client-facing role responsible for participating in FinOps implementation projects and managing successful ongoing customer engagement. This person will guide customers in optimizing their cloud consumption with both financial and technical expertise. In addition, this cross-functional role encompasses internal duties such as employee training, service enhancement, and improving upon operational excellence.

🎯 The Role

The Cloud FinOps Consultant is a client-facing role responsible for participating in FinOps implementation projects and managing successful ongoing customer engagement. This person will guide customers in optimizing their cloud consumption with both financial and technical expertise. In addition, this cross-functional role encompasses internal duties such as employee training, service enhancement, and improving upon operational excellence.

✅ Key Responsibilities

• Maintain FinOps Practitioner certification and a strong understanding of current and future FinOps frameworks and best practices.
• Learn and maintain key knowledge of AWS, Azure, GCP, Microsoft CSP, and Google Workspace service offerings and savings vehicles.
• Align Trace3 FinOps solutions within these frameworks and best practices, working cross-functionally with engineering, business, and consulting teams.
• Onboard cloud customers to the appropriate cost management systems and ensure appropriate setup on recurring billing according to contractual specifics.
• Field and answer cloud customer questions about their billing and overall account within contractual SLAs.
• Execute FinOps consulting engagements according to specified customer requirements, ensuring on-time delivery of documentation and collateral.
• Transition consulting engagements into appropriate ongoing services to ensure seamless cloud governance.
• Foster strong and lasting relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers in the client’s organization to maximize customer success.
• Design and build cloud FinOps reporting frameworks that satisfy client business needs aligned to tagging and naming strategies.
• Analyze client cloud cost and usage data to generate optimization opportunities and measure and report results, both identified and realized.
• Publish regular FinOps activity reports and conduct monthly/quarterly business reviews with clients on results and opportunities.
• Lead and present in client-facing scenarios with executive audiences, on-site and virtual.
• Research, document and implement technical and business enhancements to Trace3’s FinOps service offering and operations with the goal of continually improving customer success.
• Analyze new cloud provider and third-party tooling options to help in the optimization and automation of internal processes.
• Contribute to the development of new and innovative FinOps consulting services.
• Build a community and following around Trace3’s company solutions and brand awareness.
• Formalize internal procedures and collateral for existing and new offerings.
• Support internal resources and prospects in the pre-sales cycle.
• Continuously analyze both internal and client-facing processes for opportunities to better scale as the business grows.
• Participate in tactical and strategic departmental planning to support future growth and team success.

📌 Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of three years of experience in cloud billing, sales support, operations, managed services, or finance.
• Experience onboarding clients to cloud billing, cost management, or FinOps tooling.
• Experience leading client facing presentations.
• Ability to design and build FinOps reporting frameworks aligned to business and technical requirements.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to effectively interact with customer business, finance and technical teams
• Ability to efficiently manage and prioritize multiple projects and associated tasks
• Cloud FinOps Practitioner certification
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 offerings and licensing options
• Familiarity with Google Workspaces (aka GSuite)
• Familiarity with cloud concepts for AWS, Azure and/or GCP
• Knowledge and experience with FinOps concepts and strategies
